ANIME/MANGA: Saiyuki is the story of four anti-heroes: the monk Genjyo Sanzo (or just "Sanzo"), the monkey demon Son Goku, the half-demon Sha Gojyo, and the man-turned-demon Cho Hakkai (formerly known as Cho Gonou). They have been dispatched by the Sanbutsushin (the Three Aspects of Buddha, who relay the orders of heaven) to travel to India to stop the possible resurrection of the Demon-King, Gyumaoh. Along the way they are beset by inept assassins, bad weather, and their own tragic, personal pasts. Loosely based on the Chinese novel Journey To the West, Saiyuki Reload picks up where the first series left off and continues the story.

NOTES: The second costume completed entirely solo by Kimberly. The shirt and jeans were altered, while all other pieces were constructed. The baldric presented some challenges, as it was made out of vinyl. The chest belt was handmade. The staff was made out of PVC pipe, furniture pieces, and Crayola Model Magic. Power limiter and wig were made/styled by Kimberly as well.

ORIGINAL: Steampunk is a subgenre of fantasy and speculative fiction that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century, and often set in Victorian era England—but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date. Other examples of steampunk contain alternate history-style presentations of "the path not taken" of such technology as dirigibles or analog computers; these frequently are presented in an idealized light, or a presumption of functionality. * Description via Wikipedia

DEBUTED: V.1 AFO 07, V.2 Dragon*Con 07
NOTES: Half of the costume was completed in time for AFO. Setbacks turned the rest of the project into a new version, dubbed "Battle Scarred", purposefully distressing the costume to look damaged in "battle". Allen's Innocence arm is constructed out of laytex prosthetics, custom molded by Essay. The full-arm application takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete.

NOTES: Time constraints pushed the debut to D*Con 07, and altering for the current version of "Battle Scarred". An unfortunate incident required the costume to be completely rebuilt overnight in the hotel room at D*Con 07, and a good majority of the costume was held together by safety pins for the scheduled photo shoot. The skirt was altered for D*Con 08.

VIDEO GAME: The sequel to the immensely popular Kingdom Hearts, KH2 takes place approximately two years after the end of the first game. After the events which took place in Castle Oblivion (Chain Of Memories), Sora has been put into a deep sleep in order to restore his memories. During this time, Riku does all he can to help his best friend, while Kairi continues to wait for the boys' return home to Destiny Islands ... her own memory of Sora beginning to fade. The key to making Sora whole again lies with Roxas, once a member of the mysterious Organization XIII, and now living in Twilight Town with his own close friends - unaware of his connection with the Keyblade Master, but with the power to wield the keyblade himself.

RETIRED: Anime Festival Orlando 2007

DEBUTED: JACON 2006

KAIRI (School Uniform)
WORN BY: Myna
CONSTUCTED BY: Partially commissioned/altered
DEBUTED: Megacon 2008
RETIRED: Dragon*Con 2009
NOTES: After the retirement of the pink dress, plans for the school uniform version were made. After research and other factors, it was decided to purchase this particular costume from an online seller. Myna purchased and altered the correct shirt and re-did the pleats in the skirt. Once again, small details and the wig are constructed by Myna and Essay.
ROXAS (Twilight Town)
WORN BY: Sariena
CONSTUCTED BY: Sariena
RETIRED: Dragon*con 2009
NOTES: The group met Sariena as Roxas at Megacon 2008 and was consequentially "adopted" as the group's official Roxas member. She has since become a member of the group and plans to participate in future projects. The wig was also styled by Sariena, which she consistantly improves upon. Her Organization XIII version is still current.

NOTES: An enormous hit, the hat was custom-made by Kris. The "face" was resolved as a hood made out of stretchy material and the eyes are made from reflective tape, creating an awesome glow when photographed with a flash! The pants, while made to be big and baggy, are a work-in-progress to get fitted just right.

In the 1920's themed western Country of Oto, the group of travelers are required to designate a job for themselves. While Syoaran and Kurogane choose the profession of "Oni" (demon) hunters, Fai opens his own cafe he dubs "Cat's Eye Cafe". With the aid of Sakura as waitress, the group settles in. CONSTUCTED BY: Kris, Kimberly
DEBUTED: Anime Festival Orlando 2007
NOTES: This was supposed to have been completed entirely by Kimberly. However, the project wasn't as simple as it seemed, and the knowledgable intervention of Essay and Kris ultimately handed the dress over to the latter, including the full petticoat. The apron, bib, and cap were made by Kimberly.

FAI D. FLOWRIGHT
WORN BY: Myna
CONSTUCTED BY: Myna
DEBUTED: Anime Festival Orlando 2007
NOTES: Originally, the Oto costumes were going to be a pair, with Sakura and Fai alone. All pieces for this costume were bought, but 100% accurate for a male waiter's uniform. To be better identified, Fai's cafe sign and "Big Kitty, Little Kitty" sign were created to be carried around. Double-sided, the sign was completed by Kimberly.

KUROGANE
WORN BY: Essay
CONSTUCTED BY: Essay
DEBUTED: Anime Festival Orlando 2007
NOTES: Peer pressure convinced Essay to join the group with Kurogane. Kuro's sword is actually "borrowed" from Kanda, which acts as Mugen for the D.Gray-man cosplay. It should be noted that this costume causes significant "gender confusion".
